River Weaver
General description
Once known for being one of the county’s top match venues, the Weaver is a canalised water, originally used as the main route of transport for the salt industries present in Northwich and Winsford, although nowadays it is more widely used by narrowboats and other recreational craft.
>As well as attracting large numbers of match anglers for the regular Saturday open matches and Sunday Winter Leagues, (see matches section for further details) many specialist and predator anglers often pay visit to the water for the large numbers of specimen pike and carp to be caught.
Private parking is available on several stretches, with the Hartord “Blue Bridge” car park being the largest, in addition to a multitude of public car parks available all along the river.
Bookings for club matches on the Weaver can be made by contacting the match secretary. Species present include: roach, dace, perch, rudd, bronze bream, silver bream, various hybrids, crucians, gudgeon, ruffe, tench, carp, barbel, chub, pike and eels.
- The River Weaver is closed for all types of fishing from 15th March to 15th June inclusive.
